Welcome to the Palm Valley Senior Men’s Golf Association.
Here are some basic facts about the Association
Who we are
The PVSMGA is a friendly group of men 55 and older who love golf, getting together, enjoying a little friendly competition and who welcome all to join our association.
Background
Founded in March 2006, the PVSMGA has nearly 100 members. We play on Tuesday mornings. We have three flights of players, the “A” flight plays from the white tees, the “B” flight plays from the combo tees and the “C” flight plays from the red tees at Palm Valley Golf Course. For flighting information reference “Flighting Guidelines” on the web site. Most events are individual net tournaments. We have two seasons, spring/summer April - September and fall/winter October - March. Points are awarded for participation in events and for top 5 finishes. At the end of each season, we have a free lunch where cash awards are presented. Election of officers takes place yearly in February/March via on line voting.
Organizatio
The members, through the Board of Directors, run the Association. The Palm Valley Golf Club has been very helpful and supportive, but it has nothing to do with managing our organization. The Board consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Tournament Director, Treasurer, Past President and three Directors at large. The Board members are all elected by the general membership.
Membership
Members must be at least 55 years old. Membership dues of $40 are collected between January 1st and January 31st each year. Members receive reduced rate off golf, cart fees and free-range balls the day of the event at Palm Valley Golf Club.
Entry fee
Each event costs ten dollars. Of that, nine dollars is paid out as prize money. The remaining dollar goes to the treasury to pay for semiannual free lunches, awards and supplies.
Our intent is to reward good play by both high and low handicap golfers, and to make cash prizes meaningful but modest.
Handicaps
We use the USGA handicap system with one exception. We use 5 of the last 10 scores rather than 8 of the last 20 to calculate your Handicap Index. See “Sample Computation of Handicap” on the web site. New members are eligible to compete in handicap events after posting three 18-hole scores from the white tees.
Events
You may sign up for future events through our website www.pvsmga.com or by sending an email to the Tournament Director at Pcarvo4@hotmail.com. Please see Club Officers on the web site for contact information.
Purpose
The purpose of the Association is to promote honesty, integrity, camaraderie and love of the game. We believe that all members should have an equal opportunity to play with every other member. Most of our events are designated as individual net contests. In those events, our policy will be to assign players to groups and starting hole assignments through random selection. To maintain appropriate pace of play, foursomes will consist of two lower handicap and two higher handicap players. This has the added advantage of helping new members learn rules and strategy from more experienced players. Special situations may require deviation from this method of assignment. Members are permitted to bring eligible guests to events. Guests do not participate in the tournaments and are not eligible to win prize money. Any guest who wishes to play more than three times in a year must join the Association.
Some of our events, especially during the winter months, have limits on the number of participants. To make sure that everyone has an opportunity to play, we have a policy on late arrivals and no-shows:
(1) anyone showing up less than 30 minutes before the tee time must pay a $5.00 late fee;
(2) Any no-show who fails to notify the Tournament Director Pete Carvo by 6 PM the night before the event must contact the Pro Shop at Palm Valley Golf Course 623-935-2500 menu option 1 at least 1 hour before tee time or pay a $10 fine at his next event,
(3) Special Circumstances that warrent late arrival must be cleared with Tournament Director Pete Carvo in advance to avoid late fees.
